Developmental psychopathology of intellectually gifted adolescents

Abstract:

V našem výzkumu jsme porovnávali rozdíly mezi nadanými adolescenty a běžnou adolescentní populací v oblasti vývojové psychopatologie. K výzkumu jsme použili dotazník z mezinárodního projektu SAHA, který mapuje rizikové a protektivní faktory sociálního a zdravotního vývoje adolescentů. K našim účelům jsme z něj vybrali škály z oblasti internalizované a externalizované psychopatologie a doplnili je škálami z oblasti rodiny a školy. Výzkumný vzorek reprezentovalo 56 nadaných adolescentů, kteří navštěvují speciální gymnázium pro nadané studenty. Běžnou populaci reprezentovalo 1524 adolescentů stejného věku, kteří se v roce 2004 účastnili mezinárodního projektu SAHA. Pro zjištění rozdílů obou skupin jsme použili parametrickou formu t-testu. V oblasti externalizované psychopatologie se prokázal statisticky významný rozdíl na škále antisociálního chování, na které nadaní adolescenti skórovali významně více než běžná populace. V oblasti internalizované psychopatologie nadaní adolescenti skórovali více na škále problémů s vrstevníky, škále důsledků problémů a škále štěstí.

Abstract:

In our research we have compared the differences between gifted adolescents and the common adolescent population in the area of developmental psychopathology. For the research we used a questionnaire from the international project SAHA which maps the risk and protective factors of social and health development of adolecents. For our purposes we have chosen scales from area of internalized and externalized psychopathology and suplemented them with scales from area of school and family. The research sample was represented by 56 gifted adolescents who attend a special grammar school for gifted students. The common population was represented by 1524 adolescents of the same age, who participated in the international project SAHA in 2004. To determine the differences between the two groups we have used a parametric form of t-test. In the area of externalized psychopathology a statistically significant difference on the scale of antisocial behavior has been confirmed. The gifted adolescents scored on this scale significantly higher in comparison to the common population. The gifted adolescents scored significantly higher on the scale of problems with peers, scale of consequences of problems and scale of happiness in the area of internalized psychopatology.
