This thesis deals with extreme value analysis. Two approaches to modelling extreme events are concerned in this text - block maxima method and peaks-over-threshold. In the first part, a theoretical background is given which is essential for further applications. Afterwards, modelling of insurance data is studied. V této diplomové práci se věnujeme analýze extrémních událostí. V modelování využíváme dvě metody, konkrétně metodu blokových maxim a metodu založenou na překročení určité meze. Úvodní část obsahuje teoretické seznámení s oběma metodami, což je důležité pro dostatečné pochopení při dalších aplikacích.
