Abstract:

Bakalářská práce “Literary reflections of re-educational schools for Native Americans” se zabývá vyobrazením internátních škol pro domorodé obyvatele Severní Ameriky ve vybraných knihách se zvláštním zaměřením na asimilační proces a následné trauma studentů. Jako primární literatura pro vlastní analýzu slouží sedm dětských knih a dvě knihy pro mládež zabývající se touto problematikou z pohledů dětí. Hlavním cílem práce je analýza čtyř oblastí, které jsou v knihách nejčastěji zobrazovány a uvedení konkrétních příkladů z vybraných děl. Dalším cílem je zjistit, jak jednotlivé aspekty asimilace přispěly k traumatizaci dětí a zda došlo ke smíření s minulostí. Teoretická část pojednává o historii internátních škol a vysvětluje pojmy důležité pro následnou analytickou část. V praktické části je analyzována zvolená literatura za účelem dosažení zvolených cílů.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis ”Literary reflections of re-educational schools for Native Americans” deals with the portrayal of re-educational schools for Native Americans on the North American continent in selected books with special interest in the assimilation process and the resulting trauma of the students. The primary sources for the analysis are seven children books and two books for young adults that deal with the topic of boarding schools from the point of view of the Native children. The main aim of the thesis is an analysis of four selected areas that are depicted in the books and the presentation of concrete examples from the books. The second aim is to find out how particular aspects of assimilation contributed to the development of traumas and whether there are any signs of reconciliation with the past. The theoretical part deals with the history of boarding schools and explains terms that are important for the following analysis of the selected literature. The analysis follows in the practical part in order to achieve the chosen goals.
