Optimalisation of Open JavaScript library for geo- applications

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá optimalizací frameworku HSLayers-NG pro tvorbu webových mapových aplikací. Aplikací zkušeností z používání frameworku i nastudovaných teoretických východisek je provedena analýza stavu frameworku, formulace upravených cílů a požadavků a následně i doporučení na způsoby optimalizace. V rámci optimalizace je kladen důraz na nalezení silných stránek frameworku a dokončení příslušných funkcí. Zároveň je dosaženo vyšší modifikovatelnosti, která umožní lépe přizpůsobovat rozhraní specifickým požadavkům různých aplikací. Použití frameworku na 2 pilotní aplikace evropských projektů však ukázalo, že nedostatky ve flexibilitě přetrvávají. Rovněž se nepovedlo využít předností open-source vývoje a zapojit do vývoje i komunitu. V kontextu ostatních trendů webových mapových aplikací pak bylo vyneseno alternativní doporučení ukončení práce na frameworku a použití cesty menších nezávislých knihoven a větší flexibility.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the optimization of the framework HSLayers-NG for creating web mapping applications. With the experience of using the framework and study of theoretical background, an analysis of the framework state is performed, modified objectives and requirements are submitted and recommendations for framework optimalization are stated. During the optimalization, emphasis is placed on finding the strengths of the framework and completion of relevant functions. At the same time, more modifiability is achieved so the interface can be easily adapted to specific requirements of different applications. However, using the framework for 2 pilot applications of European projects has shown that weaknesses in flexibility remain. It has also failed to gain benefits of open-source development and involve the community in development. In the context of other trends in web mapping, an alternative recommendation was issued to terminate works on the framework and to use the path of smaller, independent libraries and greater flexibility.
