Testing the organization's website using selected methods

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je testování webu klienta společnosti ATELI Development, s.r.o. vhodnými testovacími metodami, jejichž data budou podstoupena analýze a hodnocení. Se souhlasem a doporučením společnosti bylo realizováno A/B testování nové a původní verze internetového obchodního košíku se záměrem zjištění výkonu a efektivity nové varianty. Byly stanoveny cíle společnosti za účelem srovnání implementace nové varianty, které by měly překonat původní variantu či se jí minimálně vyrovnat. A/B test byl realizován nástrojem Google Optimize, přičemž data byla shromažďována po dobu 15 dní. Následně byla data analyzována dle metrik vhodných k hodnocení cílů internetového obchodu v rámci jednotlivých variant. Díky analýze A/B testu bylo z dat týkajících se opuštění nového košíku zjištěno neobvyklé rozložení uživatelů v jednotlivých krocích. Tento ukazatel pravděpodobně lokalizoval možný technický nedostatek. Bylo žádoucí také analyzovat výsledky anonymizovaného uživatelského testování, které bylo paralelně spuštěno s A/B testem. Anonymizované uživatelské testování bylo realizováno nástrojem služby SmartLook, která pořizuje anonymizované záznamy zákazníků a jejich průchod košíku. Zde byla z nahrávek scénářů zákazníků obchodu zjevná technická vada, která v určitých případech blokovala průchod a úspěšné dokončení objednávky zákazníky. Na základě výstupů obou těchto experimentů bylo vytvořeno doporučení společnosti, které by mělo podpořit jejich interní rozhodnutí, zda nově vyvinutou komponentu finálně umístit na web nebo vrátit do vývoje.

Abstract:

The objective of this research is to test the performance of a specific component of a website using a set of appropriate testing methods. The data provided for this research are the property of the client of ATELI Development s.r.o. company. With the permission and recommendation of the company, A/B testing was implemented on the new and original version of checkout to evaluate the performance and effectiveness of the new checkout version. The stated objectives of the client company are to compare implementations of the checkout versions, the new version should either exceed the original version or at least be equal in terms of performance relative to the original version. The A/B test was implemented using the Google Optimize tool on the data that was collected over a period of 15 days. Subsequently, the data were analysed using metrics that are appropriate for the evaluation of goals of internet marketing for each version. Based on the A/B test analysis of the data of customers exiting the new checkout version, an unusual distribution of users was found within each individual step. It was also desirable to analyse the results of anonymized user testing, which has been applied in parallel with the A/B test. The anonymized user testing was implemented using the tool SmartLook which stores anonymized records of customers and their behaviour in the checkout. From customer scenario records, an apparent technical error was found, which has in specific cases blocked the traffic and prevented customers from successful completion of orders. Based on the outputs of both experiments, a recommendation regarding the decision to apply the new component directly on the website or to return it to development was provided to the company.
