The role of media multitasking in the learning process

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá fenoménem mediálního multitaskingu, jeho tematickým vymezením a identifikováním specifických projevů. V další části se práce zaměřuje na určení pozitivních i negativních dopadů multitaskového chování na kognitivní a psychické procesy a chování jedince. Důraz je kladen na pozici fenoménu v procesu vzdělávání. Práce zvažuje návykovou povahu jevu a navrhuje strategie omezování a vědomého ovládání rozsahu mediálního multitaskingu. Empirická část se zaměřuje na zkoumání výskytu fenoménu u studentů Informačních studií a knihovnictví a zjišťuje důvod zvolení multitaskového chování a intenzitu potřeby vykonávat více činností současně.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with a phenomenon called media multitasking, its thematic specification and identification of particular manifestations. In the next part, the thesis focuses on defining positive and negative impacts of multitasking behaviour on the cognitive and mental processes as well as on people’s behaviour. The emphasis is put on the position of this phenomenon in the process of education. The thesis considers addictive character of this phenomenon and suggests strategies which could limit and knowingly control range of the media multitasking. The empirical part concentrates on occurrence of the phenomenon in students of Information and Library Studies. It also looks for reasons why the multitasking behaviour was chosen and tries to find out the intensity of a need to perform mor e activities at the same time.
