Instant payments as a substitute for payment cards

Abstract:

Okamžité platby postupně nahrazují běžné platební příkazy. Česká národní banka se několikrát nechala slyšet, že jde zároveň o dostatečně nevyužitou příležitost. Zvýšení podílu okamžitých plateb na bezhotovostních transakcích by mohlo mít pozitivní vliv na náklady obchodníků a tím i na ceny zboží a služeb. To vyvolává otázku, zda mohou být okamžité platby substitutem platebních karet. Tato práce definuje vybrané nástroje bezhotovostního platebního styku, přibližuje daná platební schémata a stav bezhotovostní ekonomiky v České republice. Zabývá se překážkami a rozdíly, které brání plnému rozšíření okamžitých plateb. Překládá hlavní výzvy, kterým by řešení na bázi okamžitých plateb při pokusu o nahrazování platebních karet čelilo.

Abstract:

Instant payments are gradually replacing conventional payment. The Czech National Bank has mentioned several times that this is a sufficiently underutilized opportunity. Increasing share of instant payments in non-cash transactions could have a positive impact on merchants' costs and thus on the prices of goods and services. This raises the question of whether instant payments can be a substitute for payment cards. This thesis defines selected non-cash payment instruments, presents the payment schemes in question and the state of the non-cash economy in the Czech Republic. It discusses the obstacles and differences that prevent the full uptake of instant payments. It provides the main challenges that an instant payment solution would face when attempting to replace payment cards.
