Stereotypes in education

Abstract:

Cílem této práce bylo prozkoumat genderové, národnostní, etnické a sociální stereotypy učitelek a učitelů na středních zemědělských školách. V teoretické části byly popsány základní pojmy, nejčastější stereotypy obecně, nejčastější stereotypy ve vztahu ke vzdělávání a byly charakterizovány střední školy. Pro praktickou část byl vytvořen dotazník, který byl rozeslán pedagogům z jedenácti středních zemědělských škol po celé republice. Celkem bylo sesbíráno 61 dotazníků, které byly vyhodnoceny. Většina pedagogů si myslí, že učitelství je doménou žen. Na mnoha školách se vyskytují obory navštěvovány převážně chlapci nebo dívkami. Genderové stereotypy se v komunikaci pedagogů s žáky projevily jen u 13 % pedagogů. 80,3 % respondentů uvedlo, že napomínají obě pohlaví stejně často. U 77 % respondentů studují na školách i jiné než české národnosti (nejčastěji Ukrajinci, Slováci a Vietnamci). Dle 56,9 % respondentů dosahují studenti české národnosti lepších výsledků než jiné národností, čímž byl národnostní stereotyp potvrzen. Ve velmi malé míře byl u respondentů zaznamenán etnický stereotyp, že studenti bílé barvy pleti dosahují lepších výsledků než ostatní. V malé míře byl zaznamenán i sociální stereotyp, že děti z bohatších rodin dosahují lepších výsledků.

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to investigate stereotypes of teachers from high schools with agricultural specialization. There was a description of basic terms, an introduction into stereotypes in general and in stereotypes in education in theoretical part of the study. Also, the characterization of highs school. In practical part of the study, the questionnaire was created and sent to the teachers from 11 different high schools. In total 61 questionnaires were received and analysed. The mass of the teachers’ opinion is that teaching is mainly a female job. In the majority of schools, there are study programmes attended mainly by boys and programmes attended mainly by girls. In the communication between the teacher and students there were gender stereotypes noted in 13 % of teachers. Both boys and girls are admonished by the teachers with the same frequency in 80,3 % of the respondents’ statements. Different nationalities than Czech (mostly Ukrainians, Slovak and Vietnamese) study in 77 % of the respondents’ schools. According to the 56,9 % of the respondents, Czech students have better results than students of other nationalities. This result confirmed a nationality sterotype. Ethnical stereotype about better results at white students was noted in respondents’ answers. Social stereotype was also noted since more od the respondents noted that students from rich families achieve better results in their studies.
