The introduction of Euro currency in Slovakia

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá procesem zavedení eura na Slovensku. Jejím cílem je zhodnotit přínosy a náklady spojené s přijetím jednotné měny. Práce je rozdělena do čtyř částí. V první části této práce jsou popsány počátky evropské integrace, které postupně směřovaly k vytvoření Evropské měnové unie (EMU). Na proces integrace navazují obecně definovaná konvergenční kritéria, která podmiňují vstup do EMU. V druhé kapitole je pozornost věnována konkrétním přípravám Slovenska na vstup do eurozóny a přijetí jednotné měny. Popisuje plnění maastrichtských kritérií Slovenskou republikou a budování institucionálního a informačního systému pro zajištění bezproblémového přechodu na euro. Třetí kapitola popisuje časový harmonogram zavedení jednotné měny a zásady, které v souvislosti s přechodem na novou měnu definuje Národní plán zavedení eura v SR. Poslední kapitola analyzuje vliv zavedení eura na obyvatele, podnikatelský sektor a slovenskou ekonomiku.

Abstract:

This thesis examines the process of introducing the Euro currency in Slovakia. Its aim is to evaluate the benefits and costs associated with adopting the single currency. The thesis is divided into four parts. The first part describes the beginnings of European integration, which gradually led to the creation of the European Monetary Union (EMU). The integration process is followed by generally defined convergence criteria which set conditions for entering into the EMU. In the second chapter, the attention is paid to the specific preparations of Slovakia for joining the Eurozone and for adopting the single currency. It describes the Maastricht criteria fulfillment by the Slovak Republic, and building the institutional and information system for ensuring a smooth transition to the euro currency. The third chapter describes the timeschedule for introducing the single currency and principles which in connection with the changeover to the new currency the National Plan of Euro introduction in Slovakia defines. The last chapter analyzes the impact of Euro introduction on residents, business sector and the Slovak economy.
