The South Caucasus in teaching geography in elementary and secondary schools

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce se zabývá regionem Jižní Kavkaz a jak jej lze vyučovat na základních a středních školách. Toto téma je v posledních letech velice aktuální díky dynamickému vývoji regionu, a to nejen po ekonomické a politické stránce. Hlavní rovina práce se dělí na teoretickou a praktickou část. Teoretická část si klade za cíl vytvořit komplexní obraz o regionu z oblasti fyzické i sociální geografie. Teoretická část dále zahrnuje diskusi spojenou s analýzou o učebnicích pro základní a střední školy. Neméně důležitou součástí práce bude kapitola věnovaná toponomastice regionu. Změna toponym neboli zeměpisných názvů je v jihokavkazském regionu častá a geografovi může tato znalost přispět k lepšímu pochopení dané lokality, zejména se to týká historického a politického vývoje. Teoretická rovina práce se opírá zejména o metodu kompilace zdrojů a transkripce, v menším zastoupení se zde můžeme setkat i s analýzou či komparací. Praktická část se zaměřuje na to, jak získané poznatky aplikovat do didaktických materiálů, které by měly sloužit jako vzdělávací materiál pro studenty a žáky. Jedna z metod, která se velice často v didaktické části objevuje je metoda kritického myšlení. Přínosem práce může být lepší uchopení tématu, než je doposud v učebnicích pro základní a střední školy, v niž jsou velmi nedostačující a mnohdy zastaralé informace.

Abstract:

he presented master thesis deals with the South Caucasus region issues and how they can be taught in primary and secondary schools. This topic has been very relevant in recent years due to the dynamic development of the region, not only in economic and political terms. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part aims at creating a comprehensive picture of the region in terms of physical and social geography. It also includes connected with the analysis of textbooks for primary and secondary schools. There is a chapter devoted to the toponymy of the region. The change of toponyms or geographical names has been frequented in the South Caucasus region, and this knowledge can contribute to a better understanding of the given locality, especially with regard it historical and political development. The theoretical part of thesis is mainly based on the method of compilation of sources and transcription, further methods are analysis or comparison. The practical part focuses on application of the acquired knowledge to didactic materials that should serve as educational material for students and pupils. Critical thinking is a method that appears very often in the didactic part. The benefit of the work can be seen in a better understanding of the topic then is currently available in textbooks for primary and secondary schools where the information is very insufficient and often outdated.
