Communication of people suffering by dementia

Abstract:

Tématem bakalářské práce je komunikace u osob s demencí. Celá práce je rozdělena do tří kapitol, kdy první dvě obsahují teoretické informace získané na základě analýzy odborné literatury. Věnují se především typickým projevům stáří, nejčastějším chorobám v pokročilém věku včetně jednotlivých typů demence a narušené komunikační schopnosti vznikající na základě této degenerativní choroby. V práci jsou také zmíněny systémy alternativní a augmentativní komunikace, které lze u těchto osob využít. Třetí kapitola obsahuje empirický výzkum, jehož cílem bylo za pomoci dotazníků zjistit informovanost zaměstnanců domovů pro seniory o specificích komunikace osob s demencí. Výzkum také zjišťuje, zdali zaměstnanci využívají některé ze systémů alternativní a augmentativní komunikace a pokud ano, které využívají nejvíce.

Abstract:

The theme of this bachelor’s thesis is communication of and to people suffering by dementia. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first and the second chapter contain theoretical information based upon analysis of professional literature. They are engaged in typical manifestations of old age, in most frequent illnesses appearing in advanced age, including the individual types of dementia, and in communication difficulties of people suffering by dementia. In my thesis, possible systems of alternative augmentative communication are also described there. The third chapter contains empirical research aimed to verify how employees of a Home for the elderly are informed about specifics of communication with people suffering by dementia. Another aim of this research was to find out if these employees use systems of alternative and augmentative communication with such clients and if they do, which one of these systems is used mostly by them.
