Analysis of the liquid fuels market, prognosis of its development and its impact on economic growth

Abstract:

Tato práce si pokládá následující otázky: Dokáže globální nabídka tekutých paliv růst souběžně s poptávkou ve sledovaném období (od současnosti do roku 2035 až 2040) a zachovat tak tržní rovnováhu? Při jakých cenách? Jaký bude mít tento vývoj vliv na ekonomický růst? K nalezení odpovědí je přistoupeno pomocí analýzy dílčích faktorů tvořících nabídku a poptávku a jejich jednotlivých tendencí. Prostřednictvím zhodnocení současné situace a syntézy závěrů analýzy a několika modelů zpracovaných nezávislými experty a institucemi je vytvořena prognóza očekávaného vývoje nabídky. Tato prognóza je srovnána s očekávaným vývojem poptávky a zhodnocen vliv na ekonomický růst. Ve výsledku byl zjištěn pravděpodobný vznik nesouladu mezi nabídkou a poptávkou, jejíž příčina spočívá v omezené schopnosti nabídky reagovat odpovídajícím růstem produkce na ekonomický stimul (rostoucí poptávku a tedy cenu na trhu) -- tedy omezení geologické a nikoliv ekonomické podstaty. Tento nesoulad se promítne negativně do makroekonomických veličin, čímž způsobí neoptimální vývoj ekonomického růstu.

Abstract:

This thesis sets forward the following questions: Is the global supply of liquid fuels able to grow in parallel with the rising demand within the observed period (from the present until the year 2035 or 2040) and thus maintain the market equilibrium? At what prices? What effect will this development have on the economic growth? To find these answers, this thesis approaches the problem by means of an analysis of the constituent factors comprising the supply and the demand and of their respective tendencies. By means of evaluation of the current state of affairs and of the synthesis of findings derived from the analysis and from the several presented models created by independent experts and institutions, the prognosis of the expected supply development is created. This prognosis is compared to the expected development of the demand and its resulting effect on economic growth is evaluated. In the outcome, probable emergence of market mismatch is discovered, the cause for which lies on the supply side and its limited capability to respond with an according rise of production to the economic stimuli (rising demand, i.e. rising oil prices) -- a limit of geologic rather than economic nature. This mismatch will negatively impact the macroeconomic quantities and thus induce a sub-optimal development of economic growth.
