Socio-economic status of family and physical activity of children

Abstract:

Smyslem diplomové práce bylo analyzovat objem a strukturu pohybové aktivity dětí škol se sportovním a bez sportovního zaměření v závislosti na socioekonomickém statusu jejich rodiny. K získání potřebných dat byl proveden výzkum na dětech víceletých gymnázií ve školním věku mezi primou a kvartou včetně. Jednalo se o 20 žáků Sportovního gymnázia Dany a Emila Zátopkových a 20 žáků Gymnázia Volgogradská 6a Ostrava-Zábřeh. Měření probíhalo pomocí dotazníku, zaměřeného na socioekonomický status rodiny a informace o dlouhodobé pohybové aktivitě, dále pak pomocí krokoměrů a záznamového archu druhu a intenzity pohybové aktivity. Výsledkem práce byla zjištění, že žáci sportovní školy prokazovali významně větší objem pohybové aktivity a větší množství organizované pohybové aktivity v porovnání s nesportovní školou, z čehož vyplynuli také totožné výsledky ve srovnání žáků mezi školy, rozdělených do skupin dle ukazatelů socioekonomického statusu vzdělání a příjmu. Bez ohledu na socioekonomický status vykazovali žáci sportovní školy vyšší organizovanou pohybovou aktivitu nad neorganizovanou, a to i v porovnání s žáky nesportovní školy. U žáků nesportovní školy naopak převládala pohybová aktivita neorganizovaná, opět napříč téměř všemi skupinami socioekonomického statusu, a to i v porovnání se skupinami školy nesportovní. Významnějším ukazatelem socioekonomického statusu se ukázal být příjem, který odhalil určité významné rozdíly v objemu pohybové aktivity mezi skupinami probandů v rámci jednotlivých škol, avšak z výsledků není zřejmé, že by socioekonomický status rodiny přímo ovlivňoval objem či strukturu sledovaného vzorku probandů.

Abstract:

The aim of this diploma´s thesis was to analyze the capacity and the structure of physical activities among school children who either have or do not have sport orientation skills depending on the socioeconomical situation in their families. To obtain the needed information, a survey was carried out on children attending multi-year grammar schools between the ages of students from the sixth grade to the ninth grade. It was regarding 20 student of Dana and Emil Zátopek´s sports grammar school and 20 students of Volgogradská´s 6a grammar school in Ostrava-Zábřeh. The calculation took place with questionnaire surveys that were focused on the socioeconomical status of a family and information about the long term physical activities, also with the help of pedometers and a record-keeping sheet about the type and intensity of the physical activity. The outcome of this thesis was the discovery, that students of sports-schools showed a much larger capacities of physical activities and an even larger amount of organized physical activities in comparison to non-sport schools (schools that are not focused mainly on sports or PE), what we learned from these results also, are that the same results in comparison to the students between the schools, they were divided into groups according to the indicator of socioeconomical status of education and income. Without regards to the socioeconomical status the students of the sports school demonstrated a higher rate of organized sports or physical activities than unorganized activities, and this is in comparison to students who attend a non-sports school. Among children of non-sports schools on the other hand predominates unorganized physical activities, again through almost all of the socioeconomical status groups, and this is in comparison with the groups attending non-sports schools. A more significant indicator of the socioeconomical status was shown to be income, that revealed specific substantial differences in the amount of physical activities among the groups probands within each school, however it is not clear from the results that the socioeconomical status of a family is directly affected by the capacity od the structure of the studied samples of the probands.
