Visual identities of Czech cities and their use in practice

Abstract:

Práce pojednává o problematice vizuální prezentace českých měst. Hodnotí současný stav několika měst se zaměřením na využití vizuálního stylu města v praxi. Hlavním cílem mé práce je zkoumat adaptaci vizuálních identit do praxe, popsat komunikační kanály a jak s nimi pracovat. Pomocí analýzy docházím k závěrům, zdali je vizuální styl využit na maximum. Práce přináší ucelený obraz o vizuální prezentaci českých měst. V teoretické části popisuji základní prvky vizuální identity, strukturu grafického manuálu, výběr zhotovitele vizuální identity, komunikaci měst v zahraničí nebo komunikaci měst bez vizuální identity. V praktické části se věnuji analýze vizuálních stylů českých měst a přináším řadu doporučení, jak s nimi nakládat.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the issue of visual presentation of Czech cities. It evaluates the current state of several cities, focusing on the use of the visual style of the city in practice. The main goal of my work is to examine the adaptation of visual identities into practice, to describe communication channels, and how to work with them. I conclude whether the visual style is used to the maximum using the analysis. The work provides a comprehensive picture of the visual presentation of Czech cities. In the theoretical part, I describe the basic elements of visual identity, the structure of the graphic manual, the choice of the visual identity contractor, the communication of cities abroad, or the communication of cities without visual identity. In the practical part, I am dealing with analyzing the visual styles of Czech cities and producing several recommendations on how to deal with them.
