Skladištní roztoči jsou významnými škůdci skladovaných potravin, kteří způsobují nejen finanční ztráty konzumací skladovaných potravin, ale také představují zdravotní riziko jak pro konzumenty, tak i pracovníky v zemědělském a potravinářském průmyslu, jelikož produkují alergeny a jsou vektory pro celou řadu mikroorganismů.
