Harry Potter and his audience: reception analysis

Abstract:

Tématem této diplomové práce jsou recepční strategie čtenářů knižního i filmového díla, které spojuje hrdina Harry Potter (HP). Důraz je kladen na mechanismy, pomocí nichž se děti mladšího školního věku s daným hrdinou identifikují. V první části práce je nastíněna teorie hrdiny a identifikace. Tyto koncepty tvoří znalostní zázemí pro samotnou analýzu zkoumaného fenoménu. Samotná analýza se věnuje popisu a interpretaci poznatků získaných pomocí rozhovorů a projektivních metod. Uvedené metody jsou zastřešeny interpretativním sociologickým čtením. Analýza se soustředí zejména na tři otázky, které se týkají identifikace s vlastnostmi a osobností HP, identifikace pomocí sociálních vazeb HP, a poslední otázka je zaměřena na identifikaci s hrdinou v rámci struktury narace. Dílo o Harrym Potterovi patří v současnosti k jednomu z nejvyhledávanějších, kusy prodaných knih i návštěvníci kin se počítají ve stovkách milionů. I přes tuto skutečnost nebyla tomuto fenoménu věnována dostatečná pozornost z hlediska analýzy publika. Tato práce se tak snaží rozšířit povědomí v dané oblasti.

Abstract:

This works topic are perception strategies of children reading and watching Harry Potter (HP). It focuses on mechanisms that primary school children use to identify with the hero. The first part describes and interprets theories of heroism and identification. These concepts are the base for the analysis of the issue. The analysis itself describes and interprets data gained in interviews and projective methods. The analysis is focused on three main questions: identification with qualities and character of HP, identification using social structures, and identification with the hero using a narrative structure. Harry Potter is nowadays one of the most sought, sold and watched stories and hundreds of millions people has seen it in the cinema. However it did not get the attention it deserves in audience analysis. This work is trying to widen the issue.
