Art and Psyche: Psychoanalytical Interpretation of Egon Schiele's Work

Abstract:

Předkládaná bakalářská diplomová práce se zabývá interpretací díla rakouského malíře Egona Schieleho prizmatem psychoanalytické teorie Otty Ranka. Zaměřuje se na Schieleho introspektivní autoportréty a zkoumá umělcův vztah k vlastní identitě a sebepoznání. Na základě kulturně-historického kontextu vídeňské společnosti počátku 20. století se pokouší odhalit základy Schieleho nekonvenčního zobrazování a složitost jeho psyché. Syntézou umělecko-historického výzkumu a psychoanalytické teorie chce tato práce přispět k pochopení Schieleho autoportrétů jako dynamické souhry umělcova vnitřního světa a vnějších dobových vlivů, které formovaly jeho osobitý malířský projev.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with interpreting the work of the Austrian painter Egon Schiele through the prism of psychoanalytic theory of Otto Rank. It focuses on Schiele's introspective self-portraits and explores the artist's relationship to his identity and self-knowledge. Based on the cultural and historical context of the Viennese social scene of the early 20th century, it attempts to uncover the foundations of Schiele's unconventional imagery and the complexity of his psyche. By synthesizing art-historical research and psychoanalytic theory, this work aims to contribute to an understanding of Schiele's self-portraits as a dynamic interplay between the artist's inner world and the external contemporary influences that shaped his distinctive painterly expression.
