Cultural dimensions on the example of two cultures

Abstract:

Táto diplomová práca porovnáva kultúrne dimenzie Českej republiky a Španielska. Cieľom práce je zistiť podobnosť kultúrnych znakov mladej generácie týchto kultúr so zameraním na študentov a absolventov vysokých škôl ekonomických odborov. Prvé dve kapitoly obsahujú teoretické východiská o kultúre, interkultúrnej komunikácii a kultúrnych výskumoch Halla, Hofstedeho, Trompenaarsa, Ronena a Shenkara, štúdie GLOBE a sú doplnené o kultúrne štandardy. Tretia kapitola popisuje jednotlivé kultúry podľa vybraných kultúrnych dimenzií. V poslednej kapitole sú pomocou kvantitatívneho dotazníkového prieskumu overované kultúrne dimenzie Hofstedeho na skupine mladých respondentov španielskej a českej kultúry. Výsledkom práce je zistenie podobností či rozdielností mladých študentov a absolventov vysokých škôl ekonomických odborov daných kultúr. Vyskúmané kultúrne znaky sú využité na zistenie potenciálnych zdrojov konfliktov v pracovnom a podnikateľskom prostredí a využitie poznatkov v medzinárodnom manažmente.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis compares the cultural dimensions of the Czech Republic and Spain. The aim is to verify the similarity of cultural features of the young generations of these cultures, focusing on the students and graduates of the universities of economic fields. The first two chapters summarize theoretical background of culture, intercultural communication, and cultural studies by Hall, Hofstede, Trompenaars, Ronen and Shenkar, the GLOBE project and cultural standards. The third chapter describes the two cultures according to selected cultural dimensions. In the last chapter, Hofstede's cultural dimensions are verified on young respondents from Spanish and Czech culture through a quantitative survey. The outcome of the thesis are cultural similarities or differences between young students and university graduates of economics of the given cultures. Identified cultural features are used to indicate potential sources of workplace and business conflicts and its practical use in international management.
