Modelling the Contact of a Magnetic Bearing Rotor with a Catcher Bearing

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá modelováním kontaktu rotoru se záchytným ložiskem, který nastane v případě selhání aktivního magnetického ložiska. V okamžiku kontaktu působí na rotor a záchytné ložisko nárazová síla v normálovém směru a třecí síla v tečném směru, v opačném smyslu než je směr otáčení rotoru. Rotor magnetického ložiska se navíc v některých případech otáčí extrémně vysokými otáčkami, což společně s vysokou tuhostí kontaktu způsobuje nelineární chování dvojice rotor ? ložisko. Jako záchytná ložiska se nejčastěji používají valivá ložiska, v tomto případě kuličková ložiska. Jelikož je mezi rotorem a záchytným ložiskem mezera působí na ložisko při kontaktu vysoké dynamické zatížení, na která nejsou záchytná ložiska dimenzována. Navíc rotor vstupuje do kontaktu s vysokými počátečními otáčkami, zatímco ložisko má nulovou počáteční rychlost. Výpočet kontaktu byl proveden v programu MSC Patran a MSC Dytran. Dynamika kontaktu je popsána orbitou středu rotoru, ze které lze určit jak stabilní je pohyb rotoru po nárazu. Dále jsem se zajímal o velikosti vznikajících sil v kontaktu a rychlost vyrovnání rychlosti mezi otáčkami rotoru a vnitřního kroužku záchytného ložiska. Dále se u modelu měnily jednotlivé parametry a sledovalo se, jaký vliv mají na kontakt.

Abstract:

This dissertation deals with modelling a rotor contact with a catcher bearing which occurs during active magnetic bearing failure. In the initial contact stage, an impact force acts in a normal direction on the rotor and the bearing, and a frictional force in a tangential direction opposite to the direction of the rotor?s angular speed. In some cases, the rotor revolves with exceedingly high angular velocity which, accompanied by high contact stiffness, causes nonlinear contact behaviour of the rotor - catcher bearing couple. Roller bearings are most frequently used as catcher bearings; in this case ball bearings are used. Since there is a gap between the rotor and catcher bearing, the ball bearings are under dynamic load when contact occurs, though they are not designed for this type of load. In addition, the rotor moves into contact with a high initial angular velocity whereas the catcher bearing has zero initial velocity. Calculation of the contact is performed in MSC Patran and Dytran software. The contact dynamic is described using the rotor?s rotation centre orbit, which is important for assessing rotor stability. Further, the rotor dynamic is described using the magnitude of the impact and frictional force and the amount of time necessary for equalizing the rotor and bearings? inner circle angular velocity. The model is modified for different values of particular parameters to monitor their influence on the contact dynamic.
