Christian at the beginning of new age life of countrified parish at the break of the 19th and 20th century

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce pojednává o historii venkovské farnosti na Českomoravské vrchovině - konkrétně římskokatolické farnosti v Batelově v letech 1889-1959. Práce je rozdělená na dvě části. V první části, která končí druhou světovou válkou, se díky ikonografickému rozboru sakrálních památek a popisu náboženských bratrstev vracíme ke starší historii farnosti, ze které vycházela tradiční lidová zbožnost místního obyvatelstva. Je zde popsán náboženský život věřících na přelomu 19. a 20. století i to, jakým způsobem se prolínal život farnosti s životem celé obce. Charakterizujeme situaci po první světové válce i během hospodářské krize, proticírkevní nálady a rodící se komunistické hnutí. V druhé části je nejdříve popsána poválečná atmosféra v obci a církevní politika komunistického režimu po převratu v únoru roku 1948. Následuje detailní analýza činnosti církevních tajemníků a popis konkrétních protináboženských a převýchovných opatření komunistického režimu, jež zásadním způsobem ovlivnily religiozitu místního obyvatelstva a proměnily charakter i vnější podobu zdejšího venkova. Celým obdobím se pak prolínají osudy kněží a řeholnic, kteří v batelovské farnosti sloužili nebo z ní pocházeli. Dále jsou zde vylíčeny osudy těch, kteří byli překážkou socializace vesnice a budování nové socialistické společnosti. Práce vychází především z archivních pramenů, z kronik a pamětních knih obcí, škol a farností, dále bylo čerpáno z regionálních periodik i osobních svědectví těch, kteří tuto dobu pamatují.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis addresses the history of a rural parish in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands - specifically, the Roman Catholic parish in Batelov between 1889 and 1959. The thesis is divided into two parts. Through the iconographic analysis of sacral landmarks and a description of religious brotherhoods, the first part of the thesis, ending with World War II, goes back to the older history of the parish, which gave rise to the traditional folk piety of the local inhabitants. It describes the religious life of believers at the turn of the 19th and 20th century, and how the life of the parish was interwoven with the life of the whole village. The thesis also characterises the situation after World War I, as well as during the economic crisis, the anti-church atmosphere and the emerging communist movement. The second part first describes the atmosphere in the village after the War, and the church policy of the communist regime after it came to power in February 1948. It is followed by a detailed analysis of the activity of church secretaries and a description of specific anti-church and re-education measures of the communist regime that had a fundamental influence on the religiosity of the local inhabitants, and that also transformed the character and external form of the local countryside. The fates of the priests and nuns who served in or came from the parish are interwoven through the whole time period. The thesis also describes the life stories of those who obstructed the socialisation of villages and the building of a new socialist society. The work is mostly based on archive sources, chronicles and books of remembrance of villages, schools and parishes; also, regional periodicals and personal statements of those who remember those times were used.
