Deceased parent in the lives of young adult children

Abstract:

V této práci se zabývám vztahem mladých dospělých s mrtvým rodičem. V teoretické části jsem se zaměřuji na utváření a charakter vztahu z pohledu teorie citové vazby obecně i ve spojitosti se ztrátou blízké osoby a porovnávám je s dalšími teoretickými přístupy. Závěrem teoretické části uvádím výzkumy, které se věnují zkoumání vztahu truchlících k zesnulým blízkým, včetně otázek a nejasností, které výzkum provází. Po zvážení možných přístupů ke zkoumání jsem vybrala perspektivu zakotvené teorie jako odpovídající metody pro svůj výzkum. Jeho cílem je lépe porozumět tomu, jakou roli hraje mrtvý rodič v životech mladých lidí, co je součástí jejich vztahu a jak jej udržují. Pro sběr dat jsem použila polostrukturovaný rozhovor, který jsem provedla se 7 participanty, kteří byli vybráni prostým záměrným výběrem a technikou sněhové koule. Data vytvořená následnou analýzou prezentuji formou dvou hlavních kategorií, dále rozvinutých, které jsou spojeny se vztahem k rodiči, a skupinou důležitých témat ovlivňujících tyto kategorie. Způsoby, jakými respondenti udržovali kontakt s mrtvým rodičem a význam, který mu v životě dávali, byly podstatným způsobem ovlivněny osobou žijícího rodiče; dobou, která uplynula od smrti rodiče; vývojovou fází, v níž se respondenti v době smrti nacházeli; prožívanými emocemi; rodinou a okolím; osobností mrtvého rodiče a vlastními strategiemi zvládání změny.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis is focused on the relationship between young adults and their dead parents. The theoretical part adresses firstly in general the topic of attachment-forming and its nature - from the attachment theory perspective, secondly offers also other theoretical views on forms and functions of relationships to the deceased in the context of loss. I conclude this part with research data that has been obtained by the researchers from the field of grief work, and with some questions and biases raised by the recent studies. Considering possible research approaches I decided to apply the grounded theory principles as a suitable research method for my design. The aim of this thesis is to gain better understanding of the role the deceased parents play in the lives of young adults, the aspects of the attachment, and the way the bonds are maintained. A semi-structured interview was used for data collection and seven interview were thus obtained from participants selected with unprobabilistic methods. Data formed by subsequent analysis are presented in the form of two main cathegories related to the attachment to the dead parent and a group of factors that influence both main cathegories. The ways the respondents used to maintain the connection to the dead parent, and the meaning they attributed to the parent in thein lives, were significantly affected by the other living parent, time passed since the death, developmental phase the respondents were in at the time of death, emotions, family and other people, personality of the dead parent, and individual coping strategies.
