Serbia as an Economic Tiger of the Balkan

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce je zjistit, zda lze Srbsko označovat jako ekonomického tygra Balkánu, tedy zda mělo výrazné změny či zlepšení makroekonomických ukazatelů jako HDP, nezaměstnanosti nebo přímých zahraničních investic. První část práce popisuje země, které v minulosti ekonomickými tygry byly. Důraz je kladen zejména na jejich charakteristiku a strukturální reformy, jimiž tohoto rychlého ekonomického růstu a prosperity dosáhly. Na základě těchto poznatků je vysvětlen pojem „ekonomický tygr“. Druhá část práce je zaměřena na ekonomický vývoj Srbska a které skutečnosti svědčí pro, nebo proti jeho označení za „ekonomického tygra Balkánu“. Je zde obsažena analýza ekonomické situace Srbska před rokem 2000 a po roce 2000, na jejímž základě se došlo k závěru, zda je Srbsko opravdu ekonomickým tygrem Balkánu, nebo není.

Abstract:

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to find out whether Serbia could be labelled as an economic tiger of the Balkan. In other words, whether it had significant changes or improvements in macroeconomic factors such as GDP, unemployment, or foreign direct investments or not. The first part of the thesis describes countries, which were economic tigers in the past. Emphasis is especially placed on their characteristics and structural reforms, which enabled them to reach such economic growth and prosperity. Based on those findings is explained the term “economic tiger”. The second part of the thesis is focused on the economic development of Serbia and which facts give evidence in favour or against its labelling as an “economic tiger of the Balkan”. Moreover, the analysis of the economic situation of Serbia before 2000 and after 2000 is included there, based on which was made a decision whether is Serbia truly an economic tiger of the Balkan or not.
