Resilience of high school students, analysis of compensatory measures and the preferred strategies of coping the adverse situations

Abstract:

Problematice resilience žáků se věnuje stále více odborných studií. Nedávné výzkumy dále naznačily, že resilience může být ovlivněna strategií zvládání problémových situací, kterým je žák vystaven. Doposud však nebyla realizována studie, která by tuto hypotézu přímo potvrdila. Cílem této rigorózní práce je tedy posoudit závislost volby zvládací strategie řešení problémů a míry resilience jedince. V teoretické části je představeno vymezení teorie resilience, nepříznivá situace v období adolescence, dále problematika zvládání stresu u žáků středních škol a nakonec vyrovnávací opatření pro zvýšení míry resilience ve škole. V rámci praktické části byl následně realizován kvantitativní výzkum s žáky druhých a třetích ročníků středních škol. Výzkum spočíval v dotazníkovém šetření, kdy byly žákům předloženy dva dotazníky. Cílem prvního dotazníku bylo stanovit míru resilience, druhý dotazník se zaměřil na preferovanou volbu zvládacích strategií. Byly získány odpovědi od celkem 516 respondentů, přičemž výsledky ukázaly, že resilience žáků je celkově na poměrně dobré úrovni. Dále bylo vytipováno pět zásadních faktorů zvyšujících a snižujících resilienci a vyplynulo pět preferovaných strategií a pět strategií, kterým se žáci spíše vyhýbají při řešení nepříznivých situací. Současně byla pozorována přímá závislost mezi snahou aktivně přistupovat k řešení problémů a mírou resilience. Z analýzy výsledků vyplynuly zajímavé poznatky pro další výzkum a práce tak může v konečném důsledku významně přispět ke zlepšení života žáka a celkové atmosféry ve školní třídě.

Abstract:

More and more research studies are dealing with the problematic of resilience of pupils. Recent research has further suggested that resilience may be influenced by the strategy of coping with the problem situations to which the student is exposed. However, study that would directly confirm this hypothesis has not yet been published. The aim of this rigorous thesis is to assess the dependence of the choice of mastering the problem-solving strategy and the degree of resilience of the individual. The theoretical part presents the definition of the theory of resilience, the problem situation during adolescence, the issue of stress management of high school students, and finally compensatory measures to increase the level of resilience in school. Within the practical part, a quantitative research was subsequently conducted with pupils in the second and third year of secondary schools. The research included a questionnaire survey in which students were presented with two questionnaires. The aim of the first questionnaire was to assess the level of resilience, the second questionnaire focused on the preferred choice of coping strategies. Responses from a total of 516 respondents were identified, each showing that pupils' resilience is generally at a good level. In addition, five key factors improving and lowering resilience were printed. Furhter, five preferred strategies and five strategies that students prefer to avoid when dealing with problem situations were identified. At the same time, a direct correlation between the effort to take an active approach to solving problems and the degree of resilience was observed. Analysis of the results revealed interesting findings for further research so the thesis may eventually contribute to the improvement of the student's life and the overall atmosphere in the classroom.
