Endless tango in a circle. The Neoformalist Film Analysis of Sátántangó

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřena na analýzu filmu Satanské tango režiséra Bély Tarra, který vznikl mezi lety 1991-1994. Analýza vychází z neoformalistického přístupu spojeného především se jmény Kristin Thompsonová a David Bordwell. V první části práce věnované teoreticko-metodologické reflexi si tento přístup přiblížime. Vymezíme neoformalismus vůči ostatním směrům a vysvětlíme si základní pojmy a principy neoformalistické analýzy. V závěru této kapitoly zmíníme také ideu „totální historie“ Barbary Klinerové. Druhá část se již věnuje zmíněnému filmu, a to především kontextuálním informacím. Stěžejní třetí část obsahuje samotnou neoformalistickou analýzu. Nejdříve se pokusíme stanovit dominantu, další kapitoly se věnují naratologické a stylistické analýze. Na základě zjištěných závěrů se budeme snažit naznat, že nejdůležitějšími pojmy při zkoumání Satanského tanga jsou nekonečnost, pohyb v kruhu, věčný návrat.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is aimed at an analysis of Béla Tarr’s movie Sátántangó, which was created in 1991-1994. The analysis is based on neoformalist approach connected mainly with names of Kristin Thompson and David Bordwell. In the first part of the thesis aimed at the theoretic-methodological reflexion we clarified the mentioned approach. We tried to distinguish between neoformalism and another approaches and we explained main principles and terms of neoformalist analysis. At the end of the first part we also mentioned Barbara Klinger's idea of total history. The second part concentrated upon the movie itself, mainly on contextual information. Fundamental third part of the thesis contains neoformalistic analysis. First we tried to determine dominant then we focused on narratologic and stylistic analysis. Based on conclusions, we learned that the most important terms in researching Sátántangó are: infinity, circular movement, eternal returning.
