Carl Orff-The Wise Woman: The Character of the King through the perspective of a performer

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce „Carl Orff – Chytračka: role Krále z pohledu interpreta“ se zaměřuje na Orffovu jednoaktovou operu Chytračka, která je ve srovnání s jeho nejslavnějším dílem Carmina Burana často opomíjena. Úvodní kapitoly jsou věnovány Orffovu životu a tvorbě, která byla ovlivněna dobou a místem vzniku, konkrétně Chytračka je často vnímána jako paralela k poměrům v nacistickém Německu. Druhá část práce analyzuje operu Chytračka a zejména pak postavy Krále, z pohledu režijního, hudebního, a především z pohledu interpreta samotného.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis „Carl Orff-The Wise Woman: The Character of the King through the perspective of a performer” focuses on Orff´s one-act opera The Wise Woman, which is often neglected in comparison with his most famous work Carmina Burana. The introductory chapters are dedicated to Orff´s life and his work, which was influenced by place and the time of its origin, particularly The Wise Woman is often perceived as a parallel to the circumstances in Nazi Germany. The second part of the thesis analyses the opera and it particularly deals with the character of the King viewed from the perspective of a director, musician and from the perspective of the performer himself.
