Increasing the level of physical activity in children using digital technologies

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá možností zvýšení pohybové aktivity u dětí a dospívajících pomocí digitálních technologií, konktrétně mobilního telefonu s aplikací zaznamenávající pohybovou aktivitu, spolu s plněním zadaných týdenních cílů ve formě pohybových úkolů. V práci je popsaná charakteristika pohybové aktivity a její nedostatečná úroveň u současné populace, možná rizika nedostatečné úrovně pohybové aktivity a její využití při léčbě a prevenci různých onemocnění. Testovaný soubor tvořilo 86 dětí ve věku od 8 do 15 let, z toho bylo 42 dívek a 44 chlapců, jejichž zákonní zástupci podepsali informovaný souhlas s účastí ve výzkumu. Tento počet se poté snížil na 74 z důvodu nedokončení výzkumu u některých dětí. Tyto děti byly náhodně rozřazeny do kontrolní (36 dětí) a experimentální skupiny (38 dětí). Ve výzkumu byla použita část standardizovaného dotazníku Youth Activity Profile, jejíž otázky se zaměřují na osobní údaje, úroveň pohybové aktivity dítěte doma a sedavé chování ve volném čase. Pomocí tohoto dotazníku byla získána vstupní a výstupní data. Další data byla získána pomocí aplikace Google Fit, která u kontrolní skupiny zaznamenávala běžnou pohybovou aktivitu dětí a u experimentální skupiny zaznamenávala plnění týdenních cílů - pohybových úkolů. Data byla statisticky zpracována pomocí relativní a absolutní četnosti, následně porovnána pomocí chí-kvadrát testu k určení statisticky významných změn mezi hodnotami. Data byla publikována anonymně.

Abstract:

The main goal of the master thesis was to find out the possibilities of increasing physical activity in children and adolescents using digital technologies, specifically a mobile phone with an application that records physical activity, along with the fulfillment of specified weekly goals in the form of movement tasks. The thesis describes the characteristics of physical activity and its insufficient level in the current population, the possible risks of an insufficient level of physical activity and its use in the treatment and prevention of various diseases. The tested group consisted of 86 children between the ages of 8 and 15, of which 42 were girls and 44 were boys, whose legal guardian signed an informed consent to participate in the research. This number was reduced to 74 due to non-completion of the research in some children. These children were randomly assigned to control group (36 children) and experimental group (38 children). Part of the standardized Youth Activity Profile questionnaire was used in the research, the questions focus on personal data, the level of physical activity of the child at home and sedentary behavior in free time. Input and output data were obtained using this questionnaire. Additional data was obtained using the Google Fit application, which recorded the normal physical activity of the children in the control group and recorded the fulfillment of weekly goals - movement tasks - in the experimental group. Data were statistically processed using relative and absolute frequency, then compared using the chi-square test to determine statistically significant changes between values. The data was published anonymously.
