Stress testing of banks in the European Union

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je přiblížit problematiku zátěžového testování institucí finančního systému se zaměřením na banky v prostoru Evropské unie. Teoretická část se nejdříve věnuje finanční stabilitě a bankovnímu dohledu, na které navazuje kapitola týkající se podstaty a procesu zátěžového testování, dále jsou blíže rozebrány různé druhy zátěžových testů. V této části jsou dále zmíněny jednotlivé druhy testovaných rizik i nastínění přístupu Evropské unie k problematice. V praktické části zaměřené na celounijní zátěžový test provedený v roce 2021 je nejdříve představena použitá metodologie i aplikovaný makroekonomický scénář, po nichž následuje podrobná analýza samotného testu. Součástí je i interpretace a vyvození závěrů z výsledků testovaných bank.

Abstract:

The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to describe the topic of stress testing of the institutions in the financial system with the main focus on the area of the European Union. The theoretical part first explains financial stability and banking supervision and then moves to the chapter dedicated to the stress testing itself, where the stress testing process is described, and different types of stress tests are examined. Moreover, methods of testing various risks are mentioned and the approach of the European union to the issue is discussed. The practical part focuses on the EU-wide stress test conducted in 2021 and first describes the methodology and macroeconomic scenario, which are then followed by the detailed analysis of the test itself. The results of the individual banks are interpreted and relevant conclusions are drawn as well.
