Violence at a selected psychiatric workplace from the perspective of nurses

Abstract:

Teoretická část této bakalářské práce s názvem "Násilí na vybraném psychiatrickém pracovišti z pohledu všeobecných sester" vysvětluje význam termínů druhů násilí, agresivních pacientů, zabezpečení bezpečného prostředí a několik onemocnění psychiatrického spektra s výskytem agresivního jednání. Dále se zabývá vhodnou komunikací (deeskalací) s agresivním pacientem a zvládání těchto technik u pacientů s psychiatrickou diagnózou v souvislosti s vystupňovaným projevem násilného chování ve zdravotnickém zařízení. Hlavním cílem praktické části je získat přehled o výskytu agresivního chování na psychiatrickém pracovišti a zjistit úroveň spolupráce s ostatními členy personálu na daném pracovišti při zvládání agresivního pacienta z pohledu všeobecných sester. Dotazníkového šetření v praktické části této bakalářské práce se celkem zúčastnilo 51 respondentů a do průzkumu jich mohlo být zařazeno všech 51. Z analýzy dat vychází, že 15 stávajících všeobecných sester, v procentuálním vyjádření to je 29 %, bylo napadeno agresivním pacientem v rámci výkonu svého povolání. Dvě sestry zůstaly v důsledku fyzického napadení pacientem na dlouhodobé pracovní neschopnosti. Proto je třeba se touto problematikou zabývat a řešit násilí páchané ze strany pacienta na zdravotnickém personálu i do budoucna.

Abstract:

The theoretical part of this bachelor's thesis entitled "Violence at a selected psychiatric workplace from the perspective of general nurses" explains the meaning of the terms such as violence, aggressive patients, ensuring a safe environment and several diseases of the psychiatric spectrum with the occurrence of aggressive behaviour. It also deals with appropriate communication (de-escalation), how to deal with an aggressive patient and the management of these techniques in patients with a psychiatric diagnosis in connection with the escalated manifestation of violent behaviour in a medical facility. The main goal of the practical part is to obtain an overview of the occurrence of aggressive behaviour in a psychiatric workplace and to find out the level of cooperation with other staff members at the given workplace in managing an aggressive patient from the perspective of general nurses. Fifty-one respondents participated in the questionnaire survey in the practical part of this bachelor's thesis, and all fifty-one could be included in the survey. The data analysis shows that 15 existing general nurses, in percentage terms it is 29 %, were attacked by an aggressive patient during work. Two nurses were left on long-term disability as a result of a physical assault by a patient. Therefore, it is necessary to deal with this issue and solve the violence perpetrated by the patient on the medical staff in the future as well.
