Unemployment of university graduates in the European Union

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá tématem nezaměstnanosti osob s dosaženým vysokoškolským vzděláním ve vybraných zemích Evropské unie. Hlavním cílem je nalezení společných faktorů ovlivňujících nezaměstnanost pro skupiny zemí s výrazně nižší a vyšší než průměrnou mírou nezaměstnanosti. Dalším cílem je potvrzení či vyvrácení hypotézy o existenci vzájemného vztahu mezi mírou nezaměstnanosti obyvatel s vysokoškolským vzděláním a celkovou mírou nezaměstnanosti dané země. Práce se zabývá mírou nezaměstnanosti v letech 2007 -- 2012 pro všech 27 států, které byly v těchto letech členy Evropské unie. K analýze jsou využívána data z Eurostatu, na jejichž základě jsou vybrány země s nejnižší a nejvyšší mírou nezaměstnanosti a zdůrazněny faktory, které mají na nezaměstnanost vliv. Metodou zkoumání je analýza časových řad. Na základě získaných dat byla potvrzena hypotéza o existenci vzájemného vztahu mezi mírou nezaměstnanosti osob s vysokoškolským vzděláním a celkovou mírou nezaměstnanosti. Rovněž byly nalezeny některé společné faktory, které mají vliv na výši nezaměstnanosti.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the issue of unemployment of university graduates in selected countries of the European Union. The main aim of the thesis is to find common factors affecting unemployment in groups of countries with a substantially lower than average rate of unemployment and in those with a higher than average rate of unemployment. Another aim is to confirm or disprove the hypothesis which states the existence of a correlation between the rate of unemployment among university graduates and the overall unemployment rate of each given country. The thesis follows the rates of unemployment in the period from 2007 to 2012 in all the countries that were members of the EU at the time. For the analysis, data from Eurostat are used to select the countries with the lowest and highest unemployment rates and to highlight the factors which influence unemployment. The applied method of research is an analysis of time series. On the basis of the acquired data, the hypothesis about the existence of a correlation between the rate of unemployment among the people with college degrees and the overall unemployment rate was confirmed. Furthermore, several common factors were found for the selected countries, which affect the rate of unemployment.
