Analysis of the construction of bank provisions for credit exposures and the impact of a pandemic on their creation

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je zanalyzovat principy výpočtu a účtování opravných položek k úvěrovým expozicím podle mezinárodního účetního standardu IFRS 9. Dílčím cílem je popsat efekt, který s sebou přinesla pandemie covidu-19, na opravné položky, vnímání úvěrového rizika ze strany bank a vývoj českého úvěrového trhu během prvních dvou let pandemie. Dalším cílem je analyzovat vliv nově přijatých opatření CRR a CDR, jež regulují výpočet kapitálových požadavků. V teoretické části diplomové práce jsou uvedeny základní aspekty nového standardu, které se týkají výpočtu opravných položek k poskytnutým úvěrům, a přehled přijatých opatření ze strany dohledových a regulatorních orgánů kvůli dopadům pandemie covidu-19. V praktické části práce je podroben analýze nejen úvěrový sektor ČR, ale také vybrané české banky. Výsledkem této analýzy je zhodnocení efektu a celosvětově diskutovaných problémových bodů standardu IFRS 9, zhodnocení odolnosti bankovního úvěrového sektoru vůči podobnému externímu ekonomickému vlivu a predikce budoucího vývoje bankovního úvěrového sektoru.

Abstract:

The aim of the diploma thesis is to analyze the principles of calculation and accounting of provisions for credit exposures according to the international accounting standard IFRS 9. The partial goal is to describe the effect of the covid-19 pandemic on loans provisions, the perceptions of credit risk by banks and the development of the Czech credit market. Another goal is to analyze the impact of the newly adopted measures CRR and CDR regulating the calculation of capital requirements. The theoretical part of the diploma presents the basic aspects of the new standard, which relates to the calculation of loan loss provisions and an overview of measures taken by supervisory and regulatory authorities due to the pandemic. The practical part of the work analyzes the credit sector of the Czech Republic and selected Czech banks. The result of this work is an evaluation of the effect and globally discussed problem points of IFRS 9, an evaluation of the banking credit sector's resilience to a similar external economic shock and a prediction of the future development of the banking credit.
