Leveraging natural language processing to improve communication with tools for business intelligence

Abstract:

Analýza přirozeného jazyka nachází uplatnění v celé řadě případů užití, ve kterých může poskytnout zjednodušující formu přístupu k odstíněnému systému. Systémy business intelligence přinášejí svým uživatelům velkou přidanou hodnotu, ale míra jejich využitelnosti je závislá na technických schopnostech uživatele. Disertační práce se zabývá možností využití analýzy přirozeného jazyka pro zlepšení komunikace s nástroji pro business intelligence. Práce představuje rešerši problémových domén, navrhuje relevantní metody a architekturu systému, který je schopen tuto funkcionalitu zprostředkovat. Zabývá se problematikou překladu přirozeného jazyka do dotazovacího jazyka a definuje principy interakce s API business intelligence. Z hlediska řízení konverzace se zaměřuje na výzkum vhodných nástrojů a jejich nastavení tak, aby systém podporoval vedení strukturované konverzace s uživatelem. Vzhledem k povaze dat systému business intelligence se práce zabývá také jejich prezentací v konverzačních rozhraních. Veškeré teoretické závěry a navržené metody byly průběžně integrovány do softwarové aplikace firemního business intelligence chatbota. Prostřednictvím této aplikace byly výsledky výzkumu v praxi ověřeny testováním s uživateli.

Abstract:

Natural language processing can be efficiently employed in many use cases, in which it can provide simplified access to a proxied system. Business intelligence systems bring significant value to its users, yet their usability depends on user's technical skills. This dissertation thesis focuses on improving interaction of business intelligence systems through means of natural language processing. Thesis introduces research of problem domains, advises relevant methods and system architecture which can provide this functionality. It further focuses on natural language processing tools and their settings which allow for a multi-turn dialog with a user. Based on nature of business intelligence data, thesis also discusses presentation of this data through means of conversational interfaces. All theoretical conclusions and advised methods were continuously integrated into a software application of a company business intelligence chatbot. Research results were verified and evaluated in practice by user testing.
