Benefits of participation in student local governments for children and youth

Abstract:

Hlavním tématem práce je spoluúčast dětí a mládeže na veřejném životě demokratické společnosti, konkrétně přínos jejich participace ve studentských samosprávách a dětských parlamentech pro členy těchto organizací. V první části se věnuje teoretickému pozadí, vysvětluje význam pojmu participace, popisuje hierarchii studentských samospráv v České republice a představuje Národní parlament dětí a mládeže. Částečně se věnuje také historii dětských parlamentů a opírá se o díla odborníků z praxe v čele s výborným pedagogem a spoluzakladatelem Evropské asociace zařízení volného času dětí a mládeže, Břetislavem Hofbauerem. Druhá, praktická část, za pomoci série hloubkových kvalitativních rozhovorů se současnými i bývalými členy dětských zastupitelstev, s jejich rodiči i pedagogy identifikuje nejrůznější formy přínosu a benefity, které dětem participace přináší, a které lze rovněž považovat za motivaci pro potencionální budoucí členy samospráv. Účelem práce je tak představit tak participaci mládeže o něco více i nezasvěceným a vytvořit podklad k propagaci dětských parlamentů

Abstract:

The topic of the thesis is cooperation of children and youth in public life of democratic society specifically it is focused on contribution of their participation in student self-governments and student parliament for members of those organizations. The first part is focused on theoretical background and the definition of participation. It also describes the hierarchy of student parliaments in Czech Republic and introduces the idea of National parliament of children and youth to the reader. The thesis also partially pays attention to history of these parliaments and it is based on books written by professionals from this field led by a great teacher and co-founder of European Association of Institutions of Non-formal Education of Children and Youth, Břetislav Hofbauer. The second part, with help of series of qualitative interviews with current and past members of parliament representatives, their parents and teachers, identifies all the different forms of contribution and benefits that come with participation of children, and which can be also seen as motivation for potential future members of parliaments. The aim of the thesis is introduction of youth participation and making the background for propagation of the parliaments.
