How landscape structure and heterogenity affects Tree Sparrow abundance

Abstract:

Ptáci zemědělské krajiny zaznamenali za posledních 30 let velký úbytek ve svém počtu. Také vrabec polní (Passer montanus) se na polích a loukách objevuje v menších hejnech, než v minulém století, kdy byl dokonce považován za škůdce, který ničí úrodu. Z faktorů, které způsobují jeho úbytek lze jmenovat např. intenzifikaci zemědělství spojenou se zvýšeným používáním pesticidů, ztrátu biotopů které představují hnízdní příležitosti, modernizaci lidských sídel a přítomnost zeleně či mezidruhová kompetice. Na otázku, co ovlivňuje početnost vrabce polního v lidských sídlech a přilehlé krajině, hledá odpověď předkládaná diplomová práce. Pomocí programu QGIS bylo analyzováno okolí 21 vesnic v oblasti středních a jižních Čech. V každé vesnici byly vymezeny dva druhy zájmových ploch ve tvaru kružnice o poloměru 500 m a 200 m. Byla sledována struktura a využití krajiny pomocí kategorií land-use, hustoty okrajů (Edge Denzity) zájmových území, hustoty okrajů kategorií land-use a rozmanitosti enkláv pomocí Shannonova indexu diverzity. Pro účely zhodnocení intravilánu byla z kružnic navíc vyčleněna zastavěná plocha, která byla zvlášť kategorizována pomocí klasifikační stupnice Katastru nemovitostí. Výsledné hodnoty byly porovnány se zjištěnými počty vrabců polních a statisticky vyhodnoceny v prostředí RStudio. V okolí sídel populace vrabce polního pozitivně reaguje na přítomnost zemědělské půdy a to jak v menších tak i ve větších zájmových kruzích. Nepotvrdila se významnost heterogenity okolní krajiny jako celku. Zkoumaná populace využívá ke hnízdění okraj sídel a do přilehlé krajiny pravděpodobně vylétává pouze za potravou a není tak zřejmě přímo ovlivněna její rozmanitostí. Nechá se předpokládat, že z tohoto důvodu pozitivně reaguje svou početností na index hustoty okrajů vodních ploch a travních porostů. V rámci intravilánu se nepotvrdil statisticky významný žádný faktor. Z hlediska porovnání ploch 200 m a 500 m lze konstatovat v podstatě obdobné výsledky. Nebyl zjištěn rozdíl v modelech závislosti v kategoriích land-use celkové plochy ani intravilánu.

Abstract:

The birds of the agricultural landscape have experienced a large decrease in their number over the last 30 years. The tree sparrow (Passer montanus) also appears in fields and meadows in smaller flocks than in the last century, when it was even considered a pest that destroys crops. Factors that cause its decline include, for example, the intensification of agriculture associated with increased use of pesticides, the loss of habitats that represent nesting opportunities, the modernization of human settlements and the presence of greenery or interspecies competition. The submitted diploma thesis also seeks answer to the question of what influences the abundance of the field sparrow in human settlements and the adjacent landscape. Using the QGIS software, the surroundings of 21 villages in the area of Central and Southern Bohemia were analyzed. In each village, two types of areas of interest were defined in the shape of a circle with a radius of 500 and 200 m. The structure and use of the landscape were monitored using land-use categories index. For the purposes of evaluating the urban area, the built-up area was also set aside from the circles, which was separately categorized using the Cadastre of Real Estate classification scale. The resulting values were compared with the detected numbers of tree sparrows and statistically evaluated in the RStudio environment. In the vicinity of the settlements of the field sparrow population, it reacts positively to the presence of agricultural land, both in smaller and larger circles of interest. The significance of the heterogeneity of the surrounding landscape as a whole was not confirmed. The studied population uses the edge of settlements for nesting and probably flies into the adjacent landscape only for food and is thus probably not directly affected by its diversity. It can be assumed that for this reason it responds positively to the density index of the edges of water bodies and grasslands. No statistically significant factor was confirmed within the urban area. In terms of comparing areas of 200 and 500 m, essentially similar results can be stated. There was no difference in dependence models in the land-use categories of total area or urban area.
