The relationship between creativity and the perceived meaningfulness of life

Abstract:

Ačkoliv existuje množství výzkumů zabývajících se životní smysluplností a zejména v posledních desetiletích se celá řada studií zaměřuje i na kreativitu, taková, která by zkoumala vztah těchto dvou fenoménů, dosud nebyla uskutečněna. Důležitým je v této tématice koncept "flow", v němž je mimo jiné vzájemně propojena kreativita s životní smysluplnosti. Jádrem této práce je problematika vztahu mezi kreativitou a vnímanou životní smysluplností. Vycházíme z předpokladu, že jedinci, kteří dosahují vyššího skóre v Existenciální škále (ESK) dosahují zároveň vyššího skóre i v Kaufmanově škále doménově specifické kreativity (K-DOCS). Výzkumný soubor je složen z 213 respondentů, z nichž 143 tvoří ženy a 70 muži. Z výsledků získaných na základě uskutečněného kvantitativního výzkumu vyplývá, že úvodní předpoklad byl, ač pouze nepatrně, podpořen. Jedinci, kteří dosáhli vyššího celkového skóre na škále ESK dosáhli zároveň vyššího celkového skóre na škále K-DOCS. Na základě získaných výsledků by se dalo konstatovat, že mezi kreativitou a vnímanou životní smysluplností existuje statisticky významný vztah a že s rostoucí mírou vnímané životní smysluplnosti roste míra sebeposuzované kreativity a naopak

Abstract:

In the recent years, a great deal of research on dimensions of life meaningfulness and creativity has been carried out, but the one which investigates the mutual correlation of these two terms has not been brought to life yet. Therefore the core of the present thesis is the issue of the mutual correlation between life meaningfulness and creativity. Related to this theme is the so called "Flow" concept, which interconnects the phenomena of life meaningfulness and creativity. In principle, the basic assumption is that individuals who score high on the Existence Scale (ES) score also high on Kaufman Domains of Creativity Scale (K-DOCS). The target group of respondents consists of 213 individuals of whom 143 females and 70 males. Finally, the data acquired from the conducted creativity research support, though slightly, the original hypothesis. Thus the individuals who scored high on Existence Scale (ES) score equally high on the overall score on Kaufman Domains of Creativity Scale. Based on the results obtaind, it could be stated that there is a statistically significant relationship between creativity and perceived life meaningfulness, in other words, with the increasing degree of perceived life meaningfulness also grows the degree of self-assessment of creativity and vice versa
