THE HISTORY OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND ITS SPREAD AND THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE STANDARD BRITISH ENGLISH AND OTHER WORLD ENGLISH STANDARDS

Abstract:

Na úplném začátku této bakalářské práce se pojednává, co jazyk jako takový vlastně je a jsou charakterizovány jeho obecná hlediska. V úvodu je též určeno zařazení angličtiny do jazykové skupiny. Dále se dozvídáme fakta o původu anglického jazyka a jeho následné rozšíření z historického hlediska. Hlavní část práce je věnována třem světovým standardům angličtiny: americká angličtina (včetně afroamerické), australská angličtina a africká angličtina (včetně jihoafrické angličtiny). V každé vybrané destinaci hraje významnou roli historický vývoj a další různé vlivy. V každém druhu angličtiny jsou popsány typické znaky výslovnosti, syntaxe a lexiky; vždy v porovnání se standardní britskou angličtinou. V závěru práce se zamyslíme nad možnými vyhlídkami anglického jazyka ve světě.

Abstract:

This Bachelor Degree Thesis at its very beginning deals with what a language actually is and what are its general aspects; it is also about placement of the English language in the language tree. The thesis then deals with the origin of the English language and its historical spread around the world. The main part is dedicated to three particular world standards of English: American English (including African American), Australian English and African English (including South African English). The historical development and other different influences of each chosen destination play a significant part of the thesis. In each variety are described typical features of pronunciation, syntax and lexis; always in comparison with Standard British English. In the conclusion there is a discussion on possible outlooks of the English language in the world in near future.
