Existence of Nash Equilibrium in Cournot Oligopoly

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je určit podmínky, za kterých v Cournotově oligopolu existuje bod Nashovy rovnováhy. Práce je rozdělena do čtyř kapitol. První tři kapitoly tvoří teoretickou část práce, která zahrnuje poznatky, na jejichž základě podmínky existence Nashovy rovnováhy v Cournotově oligopolu stanovujeme. První kapitola je shrnutím základních pojmů a zákonitostí teorie her, které jsou podkladem pro praktickou část této práce. V druhé kapitole je osvětleno chování firmy a význam oligopolu v ekonomické teorii. Třetí kapitola pak pojednává o matematickém modelu oligopolu užívaném v teorii her - Cournotově oligopolu ? a rovněž zahrnuje samotné stanovení podmínek. Čtvrtá kapitola tvoří část praktickou a obsahuje dva příklady Cournotova oligopolu ? duopol a oligopol pěti firem.

Abstract:

The main purpose of this thesis is to determine the conditions under which there is a point of Nash Equilibrium in the Cournot Oligopoly. This thesis consists of four chapters. The first three chapters form a theoretical part, which includes the knowledge to determine the conditions of existence of a Nash Equilibrium in the Cournot Oligopoly. The first chapter is the summary of the basic concepts, laws and lemmas of Game Theory, which is a basis for the practical part of this thesis. In the second chapter, the behaviour of the Firm and the importance of the Oligopoly in economic theory are explained. The third chapter discusses the mathematical model of the Oligopoly which is used in Game Theory -the Cournot Oligopoly ? and also includes the determination of conditions itself. The fourth chapter is a practical one and includes two examples of the Cournot Oligopoly ? the Duopoly and the Oligopoly of five Firms.
