Abstract:

The Fountainhead je artbook volně interpretující téma stejnojmené knihy spisovatelky Ayn Randové. Kniha obsahuje ilustrace a výtvarné návrhy charakterů a prostředí. Každý návrh postavy je pak doplněn dvěma krátkými odstavci - popisem dané postavy a popisem tvůrčího procesu při jejím navrhování. Práce také obsahuje skici další možné návrhy. Postavy jsou rozčleněny do několika skupin, které jsou proloženy ilustracemi prostředí. Mým hlavním cílem bylo vytvoření silného, originálního designu s důrazem právě na postavy, jejich postoj, výraz ve tváři a oděv. Každá z ilustrací by měla být výstižná a zapůsobit i bez doprovodného textu. Na druhou stranu, ilustrace prostředí jsou méně popisné a více se v nich zaměřuji na náladu a atmosféru daného momentu, který zachycují.

Abstract:

The Fountainhead is an artbook based on Ayn Rand's novel of the same name. The artbook contains concept art and illustration of characters and environment. Each of the character concepts are also supplemented by two short articles, first introducing the character and second describing how I approached the process of making the concept illustration. It also contains some of the sketches. The characters are sorted out into several groups, which are segregated by illustrations of the environment. My main aim was to make a strong, original design with the focus on characters, their postures, facial expressions and costumes. Each illustration should be appealing and expressing the nature of the character even without the following description. On the other hand, the illustrations of the environment are intentionally less descriptive and more focused on the mood of the moment it captures.
