The Effect of Women in Management on Corporate Social Responsibility: Application to the Selected Industry

Abstract:

The diploma thesis "The effect of women in management on corporate social responsibility: Application to the selected industry" aims to assess the impact of the presence of women in management on the company's socially sustainable behaviour (CSR), specifically in the case of shopping centres in the Czech and Slovak Republic. The research set consists of three shopping centres, one of which is managed by a man and the other two by women. The literature review presents the current knowledge about the need for social responsibility, the influence of women in management, the application of CSR principles in the shopping centre industry, and related topics. Qualitative research conducted in the form of a case study obtained data using semi-structured interviews with general directors and through secondary data sources of the given centres. Through open interpretation and thematic coding, these data were embedded in a selected evaluation model that compared the CSR activity of individual directors in the given centres. It is possible to observe a positive influence between the performance of the CSR activities of the shopping centre and the fact that a woman leads the centre. These results are subject to discussion. The contribution of this work is the proposed research design and follow-up procedure.

Diplomová práca „Vliv žen v managementu na společenskou odpovědnost firem: Aplikace na vybrané odvětví“ má za cieľ posúdiť vplyv prítomnosti žien v manažmente na sociálne udržateľné správanie firmy (CSR) a to konkrétne na prípade nákupných centier v Českej a Slovenskej republike. Výskumný súbor tvoria tri nákupné centrá, pričom jedno je riadené mužom a ostatné dve ženami. Literárny rešerš rozoberá doterajšie poznatky o potrebe sociálnej zodpovednosti, vplyve žien v manažmente, aplikáciu CSR princípov v odvetví nákupných centier a príbuzné témy. Kvalitatívny výskum vykonaný formou prípadovej štúdie získal dáta pomocou polo-štruktúrovaných rozhovorov s generálnymi riaditeľmi a cez sekundárne zdroje dát daných centier. Cez otvorenú interpretáciu a tematické kódovanie boli tieto dáta zasadené do vybraného hodnotiaceho modelu, ktorý porovnával CSR aktivitu jednotlivých riaditeľov v daných centrách. Je možné pozorovať pozitívny vplyv medzi výkonnosťou CSR aktivít nákupného centra a tým, že centrum je vedené ženou. Tieto výsledky sú podrobené diskusii. Prínos tejto práce tvorí navrhnutý dizajn výskumu a nadväzujúceho postupu.
