Economic performance of Slovak republic in the background of real and nominal convergence

Abstract:

The thesis is devoted to the economic performance of the Slovak Republic in the background of real and nominal convergence. From time that has passed since the new common currency, creating a space to assess the development of convergence criteria for euro adoption, while we further examined indicators of real convergence, respectively how our country is getting closer to European Union average. At the first part of our work, we will describe the characteristics of selected macroeconomic indicators, respectively indicators, which are key convergence criteria. The Maastricht Treaty is the basis for such a country within the European Union, which decides to join the Eurozone and adopt the domestic currency. Nominal convergence provides major five indicators, which are government debt, government deficit, price stability, exchange rate stability and the stability of long-term interest rates. We introduce the variables from a theoretical point of view and are well acquainted with each division and the manner of calculating the specific gauge of the economy. The second part will describe the integration of the Slovak Republic into the European Union, but we will compare the success of a new currency and the continued development of nominal convergence versus real convergence. In the third section, we analyze the performance of the Slovak economy in comparison with selected countries within the European Union, in the background of nominal and real convergence. In conclusion, we evaluate the success of meeting the target, which is fundamental essence of this thesis.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca je venovaná výkonnosti ekonomiky Slovenskej republiky v pozadí reálnej a nominálnej konvergencie. S odstupom času, ktorý uplynul od prijatia novej spoločnej meny, sa vytvára priestor na zhodnotenie vývoja konvergenčných kritérií po prijatí eura a zároveň môžeme podrobnejšie preskúmať ukazovatele reálnej konvergencie, resp. ako sa darí našej krajine približovať sa k priemeru Európskej únie. V prvej časti našej práce sa budeme venovať charakteristike vybraných makroekonomických ukazovateľov, resp. ukazovateľov, ktoré sú kľúčovými konvergenčnými kritériami. Maastrichtská zmluva tvorí základ pre každú takú krajinu v rámci Európskej únie, ktorá sa rozhodne vstúpiť do eurozóny a prijme za domácu menu euro. Nominálna konvergencia ustanovuje hlavných päť ukazovateľov, ktorými sú verejný dlh, deficit verejných financií, cenová stabilita, stabilita výmenného kurzu a stabilita dlhodobých úrokových sadzieb. Predstavíme si uvedené ukazovatele z hľadiska teoretického a zoznámime sa aj s jednotlivým členením a spôsobom výpočtu konkrétneho meradla ekonomiky. V druhej časti sa budeme venovať integrácii Slovenskej republiky do Európskej únie, avšak budeme porovnávať úspešnosť prijatia novej meny a ďalší vývoj nominálnej konvergencie oproti reálnej konvergencii. V tretej časti budeme analyzovať výkonnosť ekonomiky Slovenskej republiky v porovnaní s vybranými krajinami v rámci Európskej únie v pozadí nominálnej a reálnej konvergencii. V závere vyhodnotíme úspešnosť splnenia cieľa, ktorý je elementárnou podstatou tejto diplomovej práce.
