The Effect of Mobile Reading on the Reading Behaviour of University Students

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá vlivem mobilního čtení na čtenářské chování vysokoškolských studentů. Práce je rozdělena na část teoretickou a výzkumnou. Teoretická část práce tvoří konceptuální rámec pro prezentovaný výzkum a obsahuje základní vymezení procesu čtení, vymezení pojmu čtenářské chování a pojmu elektronické čtení. Dále se tato část věnuje představení koncepce mobilního čtení, chytrým mobilním telefonům a čtení prostřednictvím této technologie. Výzkumnou část tvoří popis realizovaného výzkumu, který je zaměřen na zjištění názorů a preferencí studentů v oblasti mobilního čtení a na zkoumání rozdílu mezi čtením pomocí stolního počítače a mezi mobilním čtením z chytrého mobilního telefonu. Výzkum je realizován s využitím výzkumných metod myšlení nahlas, úkolové analýzy, videopozorování a polostrukturovaného rozhovoru. Závěrem práce jsou prezentována výsledná zjištění spolu s diskusí nad aspekty výzkumu.

Abstract:

This master’s thesis deals with the influence of mobile reading on the reading behaviour of university students. The work is divided into theoretical and research part. The theoretical part of the work forms a conceptual framework for the presented research and contains the basic definition of the reading process, the definition of the concept of reading behaviour and the concept of electronic reading. Furthermore, this part is devoted to the introduction of the concept of mobile reading, smartphones and reading through this technology. The research part consists of the description of the research conducted, which focuses on finding out the students’ views and preferences in the field of mobile reading as well as examining the difference between reading with the help of a desktop computer and mobile reading from a smartphone. The research is carried out using the research methods of thinking aloud, task analysis, video-based observation and semi-structured interview. In the end, the work presents its final findings and discusses various aspects of the research.
