Abstract:

This Bachelor Thesis discusses consumers’ attitudes toward sustainable food consumption. The general aim of the work is to learn about consumers’ eating habits and raise their awareness about sustainable food and its importance. The term sustainable consumption involves the use of products and services which enable the consumption to continue indefinitely in a short-term society without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Benefits are stable economic growth, enhanced livelihoods of all peoples, reduction of poverty and improved well-being, increased social inclusion, sustained, and enhanced productive base, adequate protection of the environment, enhanced resource efficiency. The thesis aims to identify and describe sustainable food consumption habits. To achieve this goal, a literature review was conducted. The impact of the food sector on the environment, society, and economy was described in this section. In addition, alternative and sustainable diets were identified and described in detail. Empirical research was conducted to analyze the current eating habits of consumers and their willingness to adapt to a sustainable diet. An online survey was presented to respondents from different countries via a social network. The results of this study showed that the younger generation tends to follow various diets such as vegan or vegetarianism more often than the older generation. Overall, the results provide evidence of a strong willingness to adopt sustainable diets among consumers, but they need the right motivation and information.
