Dynamics of thermal balance of Czech Switzerland landscape

Abstract:

Oblast Českého Švýcarska prošla během let 2016-2022 výraznými změnami ve vegetačním pokryvu z důvodu napadení kůrovcem. Cílem této práce bylo zhodnotit vývoj průměrných a maximálních povrchových teplot ve vztahu k charakteristikám území jako stav vegetace, přítomnost mokřadů a vodních objektů. Údaje o teplotě byly získány ze satelitu Terra a Landsatu 8. Ke zpracování snímků jsem využil cloudovou platformu Google Earth Engine, její datové katalogy a uživatelské rozhraní. K vyjádření komplexních vztahů více proměnných jsem využil Random Forest model. Výsledky naznačují ochlazující efekt vodních prvků na povrchovou teplotu, u mokřadů se vztah prokázat nepodařilo. Vliv odlesnění se projevil ve snížení vegetačního indexu a zvýšení teploty. Jako hlavní parametry mající vliv na povrchovou teplotu se ukázaly vegetační index, krajinný pokryv a nadmořská výška. Maximální hodnoty teplot ze satelitních dat jsem srovnal s in situ ročními hodnotami atmosférických teplot z měřících stanic umístěných v NP České Švýcarsko, kde se výsledky lišily v průměru o 2,2 °C.

Abstract:

The area of Bohemian Switzerland has undergone significant changes in vegetation cover during 2016-2022 due to bark beetle infestation. The aim of this work was to evaluate the changes in average and maximum surface temperature in relation to the characteristics of the area such as the state of vegetation and the presence of wetlands and water bodies. Temperature data were obtained from Terra and Landsat 8 satellites. To process the images, I used the cloud-based Google Earth Engine platform, its data catalogues and user interface. Random Forest model was used to express complex multivariable relationships. The results suggest a cooling effect of water features on surface temperature, but the relationship could not be demonstrated for wetlands. The effect of deforestation was reflected in a decrease in vegetation index and an increase in temperature. Vegetation index, land cover and elevation emerged as the main parameters affecting land surface temperature. The maximum temperature values from satellite data were compared with atmospheric temperature values from measuring stations located in the Bohemian Switzerland National Park, where the results differed by 2,2 °C on average.
