Between Worlds: An Autoethnography of a Life of the Second Generation Vietnamese

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce je vizuálně-antropologická autoetnografie autora, příslušníka druhé generace Vietnamců, který nahlíží na vyrůstání a tvorbu identity od narození do dospělosti a identifikuje hlavní vlivy při jejím formování. Vizuálně-antropologické teorie jsou doplněny o teorie transnacionalismu a etnické identity. Práce následně konfrontuje záměry autora filmu s vnímáním filmu účastníky focus groups, kteří jsou také příslušníky druhé generace Vietnamců. Práce tak zasazuje autoetnografický film do intersubjektivního rámce druhé generace.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis is a visual-anthropological autoethnography of the author, a member of the second generation of Vietnamese, who looks at growing up and identity formation from birth to adulthood and identifies the main influences in its formation. Visual-anthropological theories are complemented by theories of transnationalism and ethnic identity. The thesis then confronts the intentions of the filmmaker with the perceptions of the film by focus group participants, who are also second-generation Vietnamese. The thesis thus situates the autoethnographic film within the intersubjective framework of the second generation.
