Protection against Reverse Engineering of Applications Running under the Android Operating System

Abstract:

Prostředí aplikací pro Android se neustále rozrůstá a rozšiřuje. Bezpečnost, spo- lehlivost a integrita těchto aplikací jsou neustále ohrožovány řadou útočníků, pro něž je reverzní inženýrství klíčovým nástrojem. Cílem této práce je prozkoumat metody prevence reverzního inženýrství, včetně taktiky a obranných mechanismů, které lze implementovat ke zmírnění souvisejících rizik. První část práce se za- měřuje na analýzu běžných taktik reverzního inženýrství s cílem získat představu o přístupech a nástrojích používaných útočníky. Na základě studia reálných apli- kací jako případových studií zkoumá vliv a použití obranných opatření. Nakonec je návrh potenciální řešení obrany proti reverznímu inženýrství.

Abstract:

The Android application environment is continuously growing and expanding. The security, reliability, and integrity of these applications are constantly under threat from numerous attackers, making reverse engineering an essential tool for them. This thesis aims to explore methods for preventing reverse engineering, including tactics and defensive mechanisms that can be implemented to mitigate the risks in- volved. The first part of the thesis focuses on analyzing common reverse engineering tactics to gain an understanding of the approaches and tools used by attackers. By studying real-world applications as case studies, we can examine the use of various defense measures. Finally, it proposes a potential solution for defending against reverse engineering.
