Product accompanying manuals in the field of external and internal communication for special purposes. An investigation into the communication situation, text function and speech forms of directive speech acts in instuctions.

Abstract:

My thesis deals with a linguistic analysis of instructional texts - operating and instruction manuals for gas condensing boilers. The text corpus is divided into two sub-corpora according to the target group of readers these manuals are intended for. The instructional texts of the first text sub-corpus are written for the group of ordinary users of the product without any specialised knowledge and are called extra-disciplinary communication. The other text corpus contains texts for the target group of specialists in the field of heating technologies, and these are called intra-disciplinary communication. Both external aspects relevant for the text structure as well as internal text features are investigated on the basis of text analysis of the texts from both sub-corpora. The analysis mainly focuses on all of the partial aspects of the so called communication situation which play an important role in the creation of manuals for the different target groups depending on their specialised knowledge in the field. Another part of the thesis is the analysis of text functions and their direct or indirect expression through various language means. The main axis of my thesis is formed by a qualitative analysis of language means of the German language through which the so called directive speech act that is typical for this text type is expressed in the manuals. Further topics covered in my thesis include a detailed sub-classification of directive speech acts into categories, a quantitative analysis of occurrence of the individual categories of directive speech acts, and evaluation of the relationship between language and non-language features and of the function of images in instructional texts.

Abstract:

Předložená práce je lingvistickou analýzou instruktážních textů - návodů k obsluze a návodů k instalaci plynových kondenzačních kotlů. Textový korpus je rozdělen do dvou dílčích korpusů podle cílové skupiny čtenářů těchto návodů. Instruktážní texty prvního textového korpusu jsou určeny pro skupinu běžných uživatelů zmíněného produktu z řad laiků a jsou nazývány extraoborovou komunikací. Druhý textový korpus obsahuje texty, jejichž cílovou skupinu tvoří specialisté v oboru topenářství a jsou nazývány intraoborovou komunikací. Na základě textové analýzy exemplářů z obou korpusů jsou zkoumány jak externí aspekty relevantní pro strukturu textu, tak i interní textové prvky. V popředí zájmu analýzy stojí všechny dílčí aspekty tzv. komunikační situace, které hrají důležitou roli při tvorbě návodů pro různé cílové skupiny v závislosti na jejich odborných znalostech v dané oblasti. Dalším bodem je analýza textových funkcí a jejich přímé či nepřímé vyjádření pomocí jazykových prostředků. Hlavní osou práce je kvalitativní analýza německých jazykových prostředků, pomocí nichž je v návodech vyjádřen tzv. direktivní mluvní akt, charakteristický pro tento textový druh. Součástí práce je i detailní subklasifikace direktivního mluvního aktu na kategorie, kvantitativní analýza výskytu jednotlivých kategorií direktivního mluvního aktu a posouzení vztahu jazykových a nejazykových znaků a funkce obrázků v instruktážních textech.
