Role of an occupational therapist in rehabilitation of cognitive functions of acute stroke patients

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá rolí ergoterapeuta v rehabilitaci kognitivních funkcí u pacientů v akutním stádiu po cévní mozkové příhodě. Práce obsahuje teoretickou a praktickou část. Teoretická část pojednává o cévním zásobení mozku, etiopatogenezi vzniku, symptomech, diagnostice a léčbě cévní mozkové příhody a také o ergoterapii v neurologii. Druhá kapitola obsahuje rozdělení a patologie kognitivních funkcí, jejich vyšetření a testování. Poslední kapitola pojednává o rehabilitaci kognitivních funkcí a podrobněji charakterizuje její specifika a možnosti v rámci ergoterapeutické intervence. Praktická část skrz kazuistiky popisuje vyšetření a navrhuje terapie pro zlepšení kognitivních funkcí. Dle výsledků praktické části nelze jednoznačně potvrdit efekt kognitivní rehabilitace u pacientů v akutní fázi po cévní mozkové příhodě. Pro její prokázání by bylo potřeba delšího a podrobnějšího zkoumání.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the role of an occupational therapist during the process of the rehabilitation of cognitive functions of acute stroke patients. The work contains a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part deals with cerebrovascular supply, etiopathogenesis, symptoms, diagnosis and treatments of stroke and includes a chapter of occupational therapy in neurology. The second chapter contains the classification and pathology of cognitive functions, their examination and testing. The last chapter deals with the rehabilitation of cognitive functions and describes in more details its specifics and possibilities within the occupational therapy intervention. The practical part describes the examination by the case studies and suggests therapies to improve cognitive function. According to the results of the practical part, the effect of cognitive rehabilitation of patients in the acute phase after a stroke cannot be unambiguously confirmed. Much longer and detailed research would be needed to prove it.
