Abstract:

Gentrifikace je výrazný proces vnitroměstských urbánních změn. Přestože se projevuje jen na menších územích, je svým způsobem symbolem revitalizace města. Jde o renovaci zchátralých budov spolu s výměnou jejich obyvatel za ekonomicky silnější. Právě ona změna socio-ekonomického statusu obyvatel čtvrti je důvod, proč by se gentrifikací měly zabývat sociální vědy. Tato práce shrnuje nejdůležitější poznatky zejména zahraničních autorů, kteří o gentrifikaci píšou už od 70. let 20. století, a rovněž pojednává o českém prostředí. Praha patří mezi post-socialistická města, proto se zde urbánní procesy založené na tržním principu, mezi něž gentrifikace patří, děly se zpožděním. Díky tomu můžeme stále sledovat změny, které v USA a západní Evropě proběhly už před lety. Kromě teoretické části, která slouží hlavně k představení tématu gentrifikace, se diplomová práce věnuje pozorování urbánních změn ve třech pražských čtvrtích. Pro tento výzkum byly vybrány Holešovice, Karlín a Libeň, které mají minulost dělnických čtvrtí, a tím jsou na gentrifikaci poměrně náchylné. Ve čtvrtích proběhlo pozorování, kdy jsem si všímala vnějších znaků, jež by mohly napovědět, zda gentrifikace probíhá. Rovněž se uskutečnilo několik rozhovorů, kdy sami rezidenti vypovídali o změnách v urbánním prostoru. Bohužel nelze z dosažených výsledků činit definitivní závěry, proto tato práce slouží spíše k nastínění problému a jako základ pro hlubší zkoumání.

Abstract:

Gentrification is a distinct process of urban changes. Although it occurs only in smaller areas, it is a symbol of urban revitalization. It is a process of refurbishment of old or untended buildings with the intention to attract economically stronger residents. Such change of socio-economical status of the residents should be the area of interest for social researchers. In the thesis are concluded the most important works of foreign authors, who has written about gentrification since 1970s and it is also focused on Czech environment. Prague is a post-socialistic city where urban processes based on market principals happened with a signifucant delay. Aside from the theoretical part of my work, with main purpose of introducing the phenomenon of gentrification itself, this thesis focuses on process of changes in urban environment in three districts within the city of Prague. For purposes of my thesis, three districts were chosen: Holesovice, Karlin and Liben. All three districts are located near the city centre and all of them used to be typical working class neighborhoods. These areas are very sensitive to the gentrification process. The main tools of research were direct observation of external characteristics linked to gentrification, as well as interviews with residents, aimed at relevant changes in their neighborhood. However, the phenomenon of gentrification is very complex, and much larger data poll is needed for making any relevant conclusions. Therefore this thesis may only serve as introduction into the problem of gentrification and hopefully as a primary basis for consequent deeper research.
