Alternative and augmentative communication for children with severe mental and multiple disabilities

Abstract:

Diplomová práce s názvem "Alternativní a augmentativní komunikace u dětí s těžkým mentálním a kombinovaným postižením" se zaměřuje na možnosti a problematiku využívání alternativní a augmentativní komunikace u dětí s těžkou formou mentálního postižení a kombinovanými vadami. Jejím cílem je zjistit, jaké problémy řeší pedagogové základních škol speciálních právě v rámci využívání alternativní a augmentativní komunikace u dětí s těžkým mentálním a kombinovaným postižením, zda mají dostatek informací a podpory, a co je vhodné při výběru typu alternativní a augmentativní komunikace zohlednit. První tři kapitoly obsahují teoretická východiska, objasňují základní pojmosloví týkající se mentálního a kombinovaného postižení. Zároveň se zabývají komunikací a vývojem řeči u intaktních jedinců, komunikační schopností jedinců s mentálním postižením a také specifiky komunikace dětí s těžkým mentálním a kombinovaným postižením. Popisovány jsou zde metody alternativní a augmentativní komunikace, které lze u těchto dětí využít. Praktická část přináší výsledky kvalitativního výzkumného šetření vyhotoveného na základě rozhovorů s pedagogy základních škol speciálních, kteří pracují s dětmi s těžkým mentálním a kombinovaným postižením. Průzkum se zaměřuje na analýzu problematiky alternativní a augmentativní komunikace u těchto dětí.

Abstract:

The thesis entitled "Alternative and Augmentative Communication in Children with Severe Mental and Combined Disabilities" focuses on the possibilities and issues of using alternative and augmentative communication in children with severe mental disabilities and combined disabilities. It aims to find out what problems primary special school teachers face in using alternative and augmentative communication with children with severe mental and combined disabilities, whether they have enough information and support, and what should be considered when choosing the type of alternative and augmentative communication. The first three chapters provide a theoretical background, explaining basic terminology relating to intellectual and combined disabilities. They also cover communication and speech development in intact individuals, the communication ability of individuals with intellectual disabilities, and the specifics of communication in children with severe intellectual and combined disabilities. AAC methods that can be used with these children are described. The practical part presents the results of a qualitative research investigation based on interviews with teachers of special primary schools working with children with severe mental and combined disabilities. The research focuses on the analysis of the issues of alternative and augmentative communication for these children.
