The influence of 2D and 3D visualization on contextual memory recollection

Abstract:

Bakalářské práce se zaměřuje na výzkum vlivu zpracování grafické nápovědy na zapamatování textu popisujícího prostorové vztahy mezi předměty v místnosti/prostoru. V práci jsou popsány jednotlivé typy grafického zpracování, které byly použity. Tato grafické nápověda byla zpracována jak v imerzivním 3D prostředí, tak i jako ne-imerzivní 3D prostředí k nazírání pouze na LCD monitoru. Dalším použitým zpracováním bylo 2D schéma, poskytující statický, neinteraktivní podnět, v kontrastu s předchozími dvěma podmínkami. Bylo vytvořeno pět odlišných scén, různá místa a prostorové rozložení objektů v nich. Každá z těchto scén byla zpracována v popisném textu a následně ve všech třech typech grafického zpracování. Konkrétní participant vždy viděl pouze jeden konkrétní typ grafického zpracování. U participantů bylo posléze zjišťováno zapamatování popisného textu, který vždy předcházel grafické nápovědě. Tímto byly zjišťovány rozdíly v úspěšnosti zapamatování mezi jednotlivými typy grafického zpracování.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on research in how the type of used graphical rendering of described spatial relationship helps in remembrance of text describing these spatial relationships between objects in a room/space. The individual types of used graphical rendering are further described in this thesis. These graphical renderings were created both in immersive 3D environment and as non-immersive 3D environment seen on LCD monitor. The next type used was 2D schema, that was static and non-interactive in contrast to the other two conditions mentioned earlier. Five different scenes were created, they described different places and spatial lay outs of objects placed in them. Each of these scenes was created as a text describing the spatial relationships of objects in it and consequently in all three types of graphical rendering mentioned above. The participants were tested for their memory of the initial descriptive text, which always preceded the graphical cue. With this the differences in the success rate of remembering the descriptive text between the individual types of graphical renderings were researched.
