Skateboarding as a sport and lifestyle from insider's perspective

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá skateboardingem skrze oblast společenských věd. Obsahem práce je též historie skateboardingu od vzniku až po současnost. Hlavním cílem je zjistit, co může pro člověka znamenat skateboarding. Práce tak prostřednictvím perspektivy subkultur, sportu a životního stylu zachycuje určité znaky, které jsou příznačné pro lidi, co se skateboardingu věnují. Zjištění se nedotýkají jen čistě vizuálních znaků, ale také názorů, hodnot a motivací, které jsou mimo samotný text obsažené i v audiovizuálním díle, jež je součástí této práce. Výzkum probíhal především na základě zúčastněného pozorování, a to v pozici "insidera".

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on skateboarding through the field of social siences. Content of this thesis is also a history of skateboarding since the very beginning to the present. The main objective of this thesis is to find out what it means for human being to ride a skateboard. Through perspective of subculture, sport and lifestyle, thesis captures certain signs, which are typical for skateboarders. The findings do not cover only visual sings, but also opinions, values and motivations. As a part of this thesis, there is an audiovisual film, which contains and supports the previous findings. The research was mainly based on participated observation in the position of an insider.
